3. You Must Be 18 or Older
Hitchcock Wine sells alcohol. By using our services, you confirm you are 18 or older (the legal age in Nigeria). We may require proof of age and reserve the right to refuse service.
4. How Purchasing Works
Hitchcock Wine doesn’t operate like a standard online shop. Here’s what that means in practice:
- We don’t operate like a standard online shop. Our website is an invitation to enquire — not a public offer to sell. All allocations are curated personally; we may decline any order or offer alternatives.
- All allocations are curated specifically for each client. Availability is never guaranteed — if something isn’t available, we’ll come back to you with an alternative.
- Any reference to wines being “investment-grade” or having secondary market value is for context only, not financial advice. Wine investment carries risk and past performance doesn’t predict future value.
5. Pricing and Availability
- Prices are in Naira and are subject to change. Once your order is confirmed in writing, the price is fixed.
- We’ll provide a full estimated landed cost (including duties, NAFDAC levies, and freight) before confirmation. Currency exchange risk is yours.
6. Placing an Order
You can place an order:
- Orders may be placed in person, by email, via our website enquiry form, or through Commerce7 (where enabled). An order is only confirmed when we send you a written Order Confirmation.
An order is only confirmed when we send you a written Order Confirmation — by email or through Commerce7 — setting out the wines, quantities, price, and delivery details. Informal expressions of interest don’t constitute a confirmed order.
7. Payment
- We accept payment via Paystack (card or bank transfer), direct EFT, or any method we agree in writing.
- Payment is due in full when your order is confirmed. Nothing is dispatched until payment has cleared.
- We don’t store your card details — all payments are handled securely by Paystack.
- If payment isn’t received, we reserve the right to cancel your order and release the allocation.
- Overdue accounts may be charged interest and Wine Club memberships may be suspended until settled.
8. Delivery
Nigeria
1–2 weeks by air-freight with NAFDAC clearance.
A few important points for all deliveries:
- Please make sure someone over 18 is available to sign for the delivery.
- Check your order when it arrives. Any visible damage should be noted before signing and reported to us with photos within 48 hours.
9. Importing to Nigeria
Wine imported into Nigeria requires NAFDAC registration and clearance. We manage NAFDAC registration and clearance for all Nigerian shipments.
- Customs or NAFDAC may inspect or hold shipments at any time — delays are not grounds for refund.
- Duties, NAFDAC levies, and Nigerian VAT are your responsibility unless agreed otherwise.
- Delays from incorrect documentation are your responsibility.
- Cleared and delivered wines cannot be returned except for faults or transit damage.
10. Wine Club Membership
Our Wine Club is invitation-only with personally curated allocations.
- Keep your details and payments up to date.
- Cancel with 30 days’ written notice before your next dispatch.
- Memberships are non-transferable.
- We may suspend or terminate membership for non-payment, false information, or breach of these Terms — no refund for the current cycle.
Full cancellation terms are in our Refund and Return Policy.
11. Events and Tastings
All Hitchcock Wine events are by invitation or confirmed registration only and limited in capacity. By attending, you agree to:
- Drink responsibly — we reserve the right to stop serving anyone who appears intoxicated.
- Confirm you are 18 or older and produce ID if asked.
- Treat other guests and staff with courtesy and respect.
- Not record or photograph other attendees without their consent.
Event cancellation terms:
| More than 14 days before | Full refund |
| 7 to 14 days before | 50% refund |
| Fewer than 7 days before | No refund |
| Ticket transfer to someone else | No charge — notify us at least 48 hours before |
| We cancel or reschedule | Full refund or transfer to new date — your choice |
We may photograph or film events for our own marketing purposes. By attending, you consent to appearing in that content — unless you let us know beforehand.
12. Corporate Gifting and Gabriel-Glas
Corporate gifting orders are confirmed by written agreement. Bespoke orders can’t be cancelled or refunded once production has started. Allow 2–3 weeks (Nigeria). You’re responsible for ensuring recipients are 18+. Gabriel-Glas breakage must be reported within 48 hours with photos.
13. Our Content and Intellectual Property
All website content — including logos, photography, tasting notes, and estate profiles — belongs to us or is used under licence. Don’t copy, republish, or use it commercially without our written permission. By sending us feedback or testimonials, you grant us permission to use them for marketing unless you tell us otherwise.
14. Our Liability
We take our responsibilities seriously, but there are limits to what we can be held accountable for:
- Our maximum liability for any claim is capped at the amount you paid for the specific order or service in question.
- We’re not liable for indirect or consequential losses — loss of profit, missed opportunities, or damage beyond the direct value of your order.
- We’re not liable for delays or losses caused by NAFDAC holds, Nigerian Customs, or other government interventions outside our control.
- We’re not responsible for wine that deteriorates because of incorrect storage after delivery.
- Nothing in these Terms removes rights you have under South African or Nigerian consumer protection law. Where there’s a conflict, the law wins.
15. Things You May Not Do
When using our services, please don’t:
- Re-sell our wine without written consent
- Supply wine to anyone under 18
- Provide false information for orders, membership, or import clearance
- Use our brand or content commercially without permission
16. The Platforms We Use
Hitchcock Wine uses several third-party platforms to deliver its services. By using our services, you may also interact with:
| Squarespace | Our website host. |
| Commerce7 | Our e-commerce and Wine Club platform. |
| Paystack | Our payment processor. Paystack’s own terms apply to transactions. |
| MailerLite | Our email platform. Every email includes an unsubscribe link. |

17. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms. Material changes will be published on our website and emailed to clients with at least 14 days’ notice. Continued use after that date constitutes acceptance.
18. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by South African law.
Nigerian clients’ rights under the FCCPA 2018 are unaffected. Disputes will first be negotiated; if unresolved, you may also escalate to FCCPC (Nigeria).
You can also escalate unresolved disputes to:
- Nigeria: Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission — www.fccpc.gov.ng
19. Contact and Complaints
If you have a question, concern, or complaint, please come to us first. We’d always rather resolve things directly.
